Fearless, inside and out

Posted on January 29 2018

Hello! Thank you so much for inviting me here to the Fearless Activewear blog! I’m so, so happy to be here as, after meeting Calum a few weeks back and listening to him talk about keeping things real and empowering women to be fearless in our own skin, I knew we instantly aligned.

So, I’d like to share a story with you. A few weeks back, I was catching up with a girlfriend who lives in New York and - I forget how we got onto the subject - but we started talking about the clothes we train in. She told me how in NY, it’s completely acceptable for women to train in a crop or sports bra, especially if you’re going to get hot and sweaty. I instantly started thinking, YES! I mean, how many times do you wish you could just take that singlet off, right?! So, why don’t we?? Is it because we’re afraid of what people will say? Of the looks? Because we don’t think we “measure up”? Because it’s not “the done thing”?

Anyway, with this conversation in mind, I was getting ready for my Saturday dog-walk a few days later and it was a steaming hot day. I was putting my sport’s gear on… I popped on my shorts and my gorgeous Fearless crop and was just about to put a singlet over the top, when I thought: “No, you know what? It’s damn hot! I’m going like this!” So, I did. The first few minutes, I admit – I was a bit self-conscious, but after getting into my walk I let that self-conscious feeling go and just enjoyed it (and I didn’t have singlet tan-lines when I got home!).

I know that maybe some of you are reading this and thinking, “yeah, but you’re fit!” But you know what? Feeling fearless in your own skin actually has nothing to do with what you look like and everything to do with how you feel and your headspace. Of course, how cute the Fearless crop was helped, but that act of owning it: owning my body, my confidence, how I felt and what I wanted to wear without thinking about anybody else. That was what empowered me and filled my cup for the rest of the weekend. Not how I looked in the mirror.

So now, when it’s hot, I go out in my crop and leggings and I feel strong in that. I think back to myself at 17 and into my twenties, when I was at the peak of my struggles with body image and remind myself that it took me stepping out away from my body hang-ups and looking at my whole self: my head, my heart and my body, to find my road to wellness.

So, whatever it is you want to do. If it’s wearing that dress that shows a bit of cleavage, those skinny jeans, that new lipstick you loved in the shop but now you think might be a bit bright, or rocking your Fearless crop at your aerobics class because you love it and it’s comfortable. Just do it. Be fearless inside and your outside will follow.

I’ll see you soon with a post on my Daily Rituals!

Stay juicy,

Carla xxx
